Factional President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Mr. Igoche Mark has charged the nation’s senior women’s Basketball team, D’Tigress to aim at the bull’s eyes during the finals of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, in Sydney, Australia, in September.
While promising the team of adequate and proper support, devoid of rancour and egocentrism; Mark urged the ladies to seize the opportunity of their brilliant run at the last World Cup in Spain; and at the Aftobasket tournament in Cameroun, to write their name in Gold, in the folklore of World Basketball.
“Dear 3 Peat, the World Cup in Sydney, is more than just another tournament; it provides each member of the team, an avenue to showcase to the world your qualities, skills, and doggedness in the Court. My plea is that having dominated Africa in the last six years or more now is the time to rule the world… go and conquer the rest of the world, by aiming at the bull’s eyes”.
Thursday’s draw for FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Sydney had Nigeria’s D’Tigress drawn in Group B alongside France, Australia, Canada, Japan, and Serbia.
The draw ceremony took place at the forefront of Sydney’s spectacular Harbour.
Reacting to the draw, Mark also assured the Ladies, that as NBBF President, he will work with the Board and relevant authorities to ensure that the team gets all that it needs, to adequately prepare for the World Cup.
According to Mark, the New Face of Basketball has come to correct the ills; and the new NBBF leadership is committed to the all-around wellbeing of players, coaches, Referees, Commissioners, and all critical stakeholders, devoid of politics and egocentrism.
Mr. Mark also saluted the technical crew led by Coach Otis Hughley for guiding the team on the right path, during the qualifiers in Belgrade, Serbia; noting that his effort was also key in the team’s recent step-up in the FIBA Women’s World Ranking.
