The Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw by the Black Stars of Ghana at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, ending their hopes of qualifying for the seventh World Cup in Qatar.
The 60,000-capacity stadium was jam-packed with fans and supporters.
Hundreds trooped to the pitch after the game, vandalising property.
Due to Nigeria’s loss, Ghana will attend the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.
This is the second time Nigeria has missed out on the World Cup finals since making its debut in 1994. In 2006, Angola overcame Nigeria to reach the finals in Germany.
The Super Eagles’ next task is to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Cote d’Ivoire.
