Confusion has surrounded the death of Dr Joseph Kabungo, the Confederation of African Football’s doping doctor, who was believed to have died after Ghana prevented Nigeria from qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.
On Tuesday, Nigeria and Ghana drew 1-1 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja in a World Cup qualifier.
Kabungo, a Zambian doctor, was reportedly hit and trodden on after fans stormed the pitch following the Super Eagles’ defeat.
He was believed to have had a heart attack and attempts to resuscitate him were futile.
The cause of the doctor’s death has not been confirmed by officials from the Nigeria Football Federation or the CAF.
