Political parties have been advised to come up with modalities that would ensure wider participation of Persons with Disabilities in politics in the country.
The National President of Albino Foundation Mr.Jack Ebelle gave the advice at a meeting aimed at encouraging persons with disabilities to participate in politics, held in Sokoto state.
Mr Jack Ebelle noted that most people with disabilities have the mental ability to run for any political office in the country.
The National president regretted that persons with disabilities are experiencing discrimination and stigmatization by members of the society stressing that this prevents them from engaging in political activities in the country.
He argued that the participation of disabled persons in politics would greatly reduce the level of discrimination being faced by the disabled in society.
In a paper presentation, a resource person at the event, Dr Ibrahim Baba Shatambaya pointed out that education is key to achieving success in all human endeavors.
Dr. Ibrahim Shatambaya maintained that government must do more in educating persons with disabilities as well as their children for the socio-political and economic development of the disabled persons.
