Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara State has distributed 260 assorted cars to all traditional rulers in the state.
The gifts came just as the Governor commissioned the ultra-modern headquarters of the State Council of Ulama.
The distribution and commissioning ceremonies were performed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar at the Government House in Gusau.
Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar commended Governor Matawalle for his concern for the welfare of the traditional rulers and the Ulama, describing them as “two important institutions” that have been “the thread binding the society”.
The Sultan called on the beneficiaries to render their best, applauding the governor’s effort in ending the challenges faced by the people of the state.
Governor Matawalle said the gesture was done in recognition of the status of the traditional institutions as custodians of religion and culture, and also vehicles of cohesion and peace.
The governor said that considering the immense contribution of traditional leaders, the state government has decided to procure brand-new cars, Cadillac 2019 Model, for 17 Emirs, 13 Senior District Heads, and 230 District Heads across the state.
