FEMA improves welfare of IDPs

The Director General FCT Emergency Management Agency Alhaji Abbas Idriss says the agency has assisted many Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs in the FCT with skills and inputs that have made them self reliant.

He stated this in Abuja during a during an exclusive interview with Radio Nigeria.

Alhaji Abbas explained that contrary to speculations in some quota, the FCT Emergency Management Agency has recognized IDPs and provided them with the necessary support required to live in the FCT.

Alhaji Abbas said what the agency did not encourage was setting up of camps for the IDPs, which he said was against the Kampala convention.

The DG FCT Emergency Management Agency cited example of the IDPS in Orozo who he said took up agriculture as a business and means of survival, and are doing well in that regard, by depending less on interventions.

The DG however said the agency had through the health department of the FCT been providing free medical services to Internally Displaced Persons at the Wuse and Asokoro hospitals.
