A middle aged man, Sakiru Famuyiwa has been arrested by men of Ogun state police command for allegedly stealing two children during a church service at Ijeja area of Abeokuta.
The suspect was arrested after policemen attached to Ibara divisional headquarters received a distress call from the celestial church of Christ that two children had been stolen.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement in Abeokuta.
Mr Oyeyemi said the suspect had sneaked into the children department of the church and stolen the two infants aged between two and three years.
He said it took the intervention of police officers, led by DPO Ibara division, Nasirudeen Oyedele, to prevent the suspect being lynched by an angry mob.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-kidnapping unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for “discreet investigation”.
Mr Bankole also ordered that Mr Famuyiwa’s accomplice(s) be hunted down and brought to book.
