3 dead, many injured in Taraba explosion

At least three persons are feared dead following an explosive detonated at a local beer market near the cattle market in Iware, Ardo Kola local government area of Taraba State.

An eyewitness who prefared anonymity told Radio Nigeria by telephone that the incident occurred at around 4pm on Tuesday.

The witness said the suspected bombers were two in number.

While one was caught and killed on the spot by angry residents, after which security personnel were sighted taking the dead body away.

The Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Usman Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said three persons were killed while nineteen were injured and have been hospitalised within the community.

Another source, however, told Radio Nigeria that 11 corpses had so far been recorded as a result of the explosion, adding that the bomber was accompanied by another disguised as a customer.

Similarly, a third source said the explosive was hidden in a black polythene bag and carefully dropped at the drinking spot by the bomber before leaving the bar.

“The two guys came to the Burkutu market as if they wanted to buy the local beer,” the eyewitness, who also did not want his name mentioned, told our correspondent.
