President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed condolences to the families of the 2 Nigerian Air Force pilots killed in an air crash earlier in the week.

Flight Lieutenant Abubakar Alkali and Flight-Lieutenant Elijah Haruna Karatu were killed in a crash on Tuesday at the NAF Base in Kaduna.

In a condolence message, President Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu called the incident “unfortunate”, adding that the officers put their lives in danger while serving the country.

The President said there was no monetary reward large enough to compensate them for their service to the fatherland, and called for increased safety measures to prevent future tragedies.

He also urged NAF to publish and implement the recommendations of previous air accident investigations in order to prevent any recurrence and provide closure to the families and friends of the deceased.
