Al Ahly beat Raja 3-2 at CAF Champions League semi finals

Al Ahly SC of Egypt held their nerve to progress to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League with a 3-2 aggregate victory over Morocco’s Raja Club Athletic.

Having come from behind to win the first leg in Cairo 2-1, Ahly also had to come from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw, in the second leg, played Casablanca, last night.

Raja had a dream start when Fabrice Ngoma headed them in front in the 5th minute; Ali Maaloul missed a penalty that would have drawn the Red Devils level, before Mohamed Abdelmonem scored the equalizer, as Ahly remains on course for a third consecutive Champions League title .

The Cairo giants will now take on ES Setif in the semi-finals, after the Algerians eliminated Esperance with a 1-0 aggregate score that followed a goalless first leg, in Algiers.

Abdelmoumene Djabou scored the lone goal in the 21st minute, as former Enyimba winder, Anayo Iwuala who was in the starting XI, was replaced by Kingsley Eduwo in the closing stages of the match in Rades.

The other quarterfinal fixtures will see Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, looking to bounce back from their 1-2 loss to Petro Atletico in Angola; while Wydad Athletic Club of Moroccan who stunned CR Belouizdad 1-0 away from home, despite being reduced to 10 men, hosting the Algerians in Casablanca.
