Minister Ogbonnaya Onu joins Presidential race

Ogbonnaya Onu, The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, has entered the presidential race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dr Onu, a two-term Minister and the first elected Governor of old Abia State, made the announcement in Abuja on Friday.

He said his desire to contribute to good governance and set Nigeria on the path of nation building motivated him to run for the country’s highest elective position.

Dr Onu emphasised that as a patriotic Nigerian who has served the country in various capacities, he was capable of bringing about the desired socioeconomic development, if elected President.

More than 20 persons have so far indicated interest to contest for president on the platform of the APC.


Many members of theAPC and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their intention to run for president.

Some have already purchased the party nomination form ahead of the May primary elections.

According to INEC, the 2023 elections will be held between February 25 and March 11, with the PDP and APC as the two major political parties.

The President and Vice President will be elected on February 25 during this presidential election year.

Dr Nicholas Felix, a 40-year-old APC presidential aspirant, has pledged to address security challenges in the country if elected in 2023.

Felix, who spoke to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja after purchasing his Nomination and Expression of Interest forms, said securing a nation would have ripple effects on its economic stability.

The US-based General Overseer and Founder of Miracle Center International Inc., said his dream was to take over the helm of affairs in Nigeria and make a change.
