Police kills six IPOB members

Security operatives in Imo state have shot dead 6 suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB at Amaifeke in the Orlu local government area of the State.

A statement from the Public Relations Officer, Imo State Police Command, Micheal Abattam explained that the hoodlums who operated in three pick-up trucks were neutralized near the residence of the chairman council of traditional rulers in the state, Eze Emmanuel Okeke after the criminals opened fire in the area.

According to him, the command’s tactical team joined by the military had on receipt of a distress call mobilized to the palace of the traditional ruler but were engaged in a gun duel by the suspects who also threw petrol bombs at them.

Mr Abattam noted that six persons fell to the superior fire power of the security agents while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

He said efforts were on to apprehend the fleeing suspects and called on residents of the area to go about their legitimate businesses as security has been beefed up in the area.

The statement adds that one pump action gun, blood-stained machetes and three Hilux vehicles believed to have been snatched from people were allegedly recovered from the suspects while a police vehicle was however burnt due to fire from a petrol bomb thrown by the hoodlums.
