NISER,NBS get new bosses

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Professor Antonia Taiye Simbine as the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER), with effect from June 1, 2022.

Professor Simbine will be succeeding the outgoing Director-General, Dr Folarin Gbadebo-Smith, whose tenure expires on May 31, 2022.

The new head is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations and currently heads the Knowledge Management Development Department at NISER.

With this appointment, Professor Simbine becomes the first woman to be appointed Director-General of the nation’s apex research institute.

President Buhari also approved the appointment of Semiu Adeyemi Adeniran as the substantive Statistician-General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS,) with immediate effect.

Mr Adeniran’s appointment follows the demise of the former Statistician-General of the Federation, Dr Simon Harry, on April 13, 2022.

Mr Adeniran is a professional statistician of repute with bias for Demography and Social Statistics with over 3 decades of statistical hands-on experience garnered from various local and international institutions.

Until his appointment, Mr Adeniran was the Director of Demographic and Household Statistics at the NBS.
