One person has been confirmed dead after a three-storey building collapsed on Saturday on Lagos Island.
Three persons have so far been rescued from the building at No. 4 Alayika Lane, which gave way during a torrential rain in the afternoon.
According to the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Femi Oke Osanyintolu, an unconfirmed number of people are still trapped inside the building.
He said the building was already in violation of safety protocols.
In a statement, Dr Osanyintolu said it was discovered that the building had been captured by the Lagos State Building Control Agency, LASBCA District Office and served with all statutory notices, sealed at District and Central Enforcement Level.
He said further investigation determined that the developer had continued clandestine operations mostly at night and at weekends.
Meanwhile, Search and rescue operations have continued.
