FG establishes First Digital Fabrication Lab

The Federal Government has established the first Digital Fabrication Lab in the country using indigenous materials and equipment.

Inaugurating the lab tagged “FABLAB 1-point-0”, which is domiciled in the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kashifu Abdullahi said the equipment was designed to develop new skills and innovative ideas in solving social challenges.

Mallam Abdullahi said the FABLAB, which is part of the Federal Government’s National Digital Development Plan, was established at a minimal cost.

The Coordinator of the NCAIR, Engineer Yau Garba said the FABLAD was built by in-house staff from locally and digitally fabricated printing equipment in line with the indigenous content drive of the present administration.

Engineer Garba said the FABLAB was open to start-up developers to develop their ideas and showcase them to the global market economy.

The FABLAB 1 point 0 is a pilot for other similar laboratories soon to be established in various parts of the country.
