Methodist Church Prelate, two others regain freedom

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed delight at the release from kidnappers’ captivity of the Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Samuel Kanu-Uche, the Methodist Bishop of Owerri, Rt Rev Okechukwu Michael and the Prelate’s Chaplain.

Governor Ikpeazu noted that he had spoken with the Prelate and was grateful to God Almighty for His saving grace.

The Governor attributed the release of the clergymen within 24 hours of their abduction to the grace of God, the fervent prayers of the Christian Community and the well-coordinated response from security agencies in Abia State.

Governor Ikpeazu promised that security would be stepped up around the Isuikwuato – Umunneochi axis of the State following a spike in the activities of criminals in the recent past.

He explained that the location of the incident was the borders with four states of Imo, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi, which made it easy for criminals to enter the State and escape through any of the routes.

Governor Ikpeazu called for Inter State collaboration with the neighbouring states to stamp out the activities of criminals.

The Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria was kidnapped last Sunday around the Nkwoagu – Leru axis in Umunneochi LGA, off the Enugu – Port-Harcourt Expressway.
