Catholic laity council demands justice for Owo victims

Resident donate blood to victims of St. Francis Church, Owo, attack

The Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria has urged the federal and indo state governments to quickly identify and prosecute those responsible for the Owo killing.

On Sunday, gunmen attacked the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo LGA, Ondo state, killing many people.

At a news briefing in Jos, the Plateau state capital, on Monday, National President of the Catholic Laity, Sir Henry Yunkwap, said the only assurance victims could get from the government was justice by prosecuting the perpetrators.

While sympathising with the victims, the Body described the incident as barbaric and urged the government to fulfil its duty of protecting citizens’ lives.

The Catholic laity warned that no one had the authority to take another person’s life.

It stated that the church was still reeling from the murder of a member, Deborah Samuel, by a mob in Sokoto for alleged blasphemy.
