The Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire says the Federal Government is committed towards the development and promotion of complimentary and alternative medicine practice in the country.
He stated this in Abuja at an event to mark the eight United Nations International Day of Yoga.
Represented by the Deputy Director in the Department of Traditional and Complimentary Medicine of the ministry, Mr. Titus Tile the minister said the importance of Yoga was as a result of its health benefits , hence the world wide acceptance of the act.
The Acting Indian High Commissioner in Nigeria, VSDL Surendra said Yoga was a way to discover the sense of oneness with oneself, the world, and the nature by making healthier choices and following lifestyle patterns that foster good health.
He explained that India has over fifty thousand of its citizens in Nigeria who are happy and exchanging cultures and orientation.
The United Nations adopted a resolution in 2015, declaring 21st of June every year as the International Day of Yoga, aimed at raising awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.
