IPAC seeks quick passage of Electoral offences Commission Bill

IPAC Chairman, Alhaji Yagbagi Sani

The Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC has called on the National Assembly to expedite action on the Electoral Offences Commission bill before it.

It also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to give quick accent to the bill when it gets to him.

IPAC Chairman, Alhaji Yagbagi Sani said the call became necessary due to the alleged vote-buying and other electoral offenses that characterised the just concluded governorship election in Ekiti State.

He said the destinies of millions of Nigerians were at stake when the will and mandate of the people were stolen through vote buying by some politicians masquerading as Democrats.

Alhaji Sani also called on the security agencies to quickly prosecute those arrested for vote-buying in the Ekiti State governorship election including INEC officials and security agents who aided and abetted the crime.

According to Alhaji Sani, what happened in Ekiti has eroded the value of the hard work by INEC in its efforts to conduct and ensure a credible election.

Alhaji Sani urged INEC to evaluate its performance in the last election with a view to improving in the forthcoming Osun governorship election.

The IPAC Chairman urged those who are aggrieved to go to court for redress and avoid self help.
