The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Command, says it has discovered some five Cannabis farms in different locations of Kano.
The NDLEA Commander in Kano, Abubakar Ahmad made the disclosure in Kano while briefing journalists on activities lined up to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.
Mr Ahmad said the NDLEA was working tirelessly to curtail drug abuse and other related issues in the state.
The purpose of the United Nations Day was, he said, to raise awareness of the citizens about drug abuse and menace in the society.
Referring to the five cannabis farms uncovered by NDLEA operatives in the state, Mr Ahmad said they included a farm at Fari Village in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, Yar Bundu Village of Bichi local government area, Kiru local government area, Mantau forest Danbatta local government and Nassarawa Gwarzo local government area.
The NDLEA commander told the reporters that the command was able to achieve huge successes in the area of reduction of illicit drugs from July 2021 to June 2022.
He explained: “A total of 12.611.656kg of illicit drugs were seized, which were made up of 9,735.004 kg of cannabis Sativa, 2,875.223kg of psychotropic substances, 1.123kg of cocaine, and 0.128 of Heroinn.”
Within the period under review, he continued, some 1,887 persons were arrested between the ages of 18 and 35, while 185 were arraigned before the court, with 76 of them convicted and 109 cases still pending.
