The police operation, which took place on Thursday night, included the recovery of a Toyota Highlander jeep with registration number NSH 398 HA and a Toyota Camry with registration number BRS 941 AA.

Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga said preliminary information showed that security personnel intercepted an alleged seven-man kidnap gang along Awada Obosi.

Mr Ikenga said the captured culprit was lynched by an angry mob and set ablaze before the police arrived the scene.

Condemning the action of the mob, the State Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng, warned against the resort to jungle justice in the event of arresting a suspect, and enjoined the public to always have recourse to the police for proper investigation.

Mr Echeng also urged the public to always exercise restraint by not taking the law into their hands but rather, they should endeavour to take such suspects to the nearest police station whenever they are apprehended.

Meanwhile, the Police have initiated operation in an effort to apprehend the fleeing kidnapping gang as well as those who participated in setting ablaze the suspected kidnapper.
