Buhari hails reappointed Commonwealth Secretary General

President Muhammadu Buhari has welcomed the reappointment by consensus of Patricia Scotland as the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth for another two years.

President Buhari observed that, under Ms Scotland’s tenure, the organisation was alive to its responsibilities in promoting shared commonwealth values and aspirations aimed at supporting collective interventions in health and climate change.

He also expressed satisfaction with the various declarations presented for consideration and adoption during the heads of government meeting (CHOGM 2022) in Kigali, Rwanda.

He was particularly happy with the Declarations on Sustainable Urbanisation, the Commonwealth Living Lands Charter, and the Kigali Declaration on Childcare and Protection Reform.

The President applauded the letter and spirit of the declarations, saying they were relevant to the common desire and aspirations to promote international peace and security, sustainable economic growth, development and the rule of law, good governance, democracy, respect for human rights and gender equality.
