The National Law Drugs Enforcement Agency in Yobe says it has arrested 160 suspects for various drugs-related offences within the last year
The Yobe State Commandant of the NDLEA Aliyu Yahaya stated this during a media briefing in Damturu to commemorate this year’s International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking.
The United Nations has set aside the 26th of July every year as International Day for Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking.
The Yobe state commandant of the NDLEA Aliyu Yahaya said among the suspected drug traffickers and users arrested within the year include one hundred and fifty-nine males and one female out of which eighteen have been convicted.


He also said they have seized over 900 kilograms of substances that consist of cannabis, psychotropic substances both liquid and solid, Heroin and Cocaine among others.
The NDLEA commandant appealed to the Yobe state government to support the command, especially in the area of rehabilitation of drug addicts as the state lacks a functional rehabilitation centre
He also solicited corporation from communities for the command to achieve its objective in the fight against drug abuse as Yobe was second to Gombe in the North East in terms high number of illicit drug trafficking and abuse cases.
