Group advocates more protection of Widows

The Military Widows Association has called on government at all levels to abolish all discriminatory cultural practices against widows in the country as the world celebrates the 2022 International Widows Day.

The President of the association Mrs. Veronica Aluko who made the call at a forum to celebrate the day said the call became necessary to give widows some sense of belongings as well as overcome the trauma they faced as a result of the sudden demise of their partners.

Mrs. Aluko said in Nigeria most widows passed through a lot of horrible and inhuman act perpetrated by their husband’s family and the society on a daily basis.

The president of MIWA called for stiffer sanctions on members of the society who maltreats widows and their children urged the government to be proactive in wiping the tears of widows in the society.

She stressed that the organisation decided to use the forum to encourage each other and share workable experiences that would boost their socio-economic well-being.
