Banditry: Niger govt orders suspension of mining activities

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state has ordered for the immediate suspension of all mining activities in three local government councils of the state.

They are Shiroro Munya and Rafi local government councils.

This is contained in a statement signed and issued to Newsmen by the Secretary to the Niger state Government Ahmed Ibrahim Matane in Minna.

The suspension followed bandits attack on a mining site in Shiroro local government council that led to the killings of some security operatives.

It however observed that such mining sites now attract criminals with prospective threats to the security of lives and properties of innocent people.

The statement warns that any mining operator caught engaging in mining activities in the areas mentioned would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

It however directed security agencies in Niger state to profile all mining sites in affected local government councils with a view to ascertaining their genuineness for necessary action.
