ECOWAS tasks journalists on promotion of regional trade

The Director, Trade of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS Mr Kola Shofola has called on Journalists to expose more, the role of international trade in creating wealth within the Sub-region.

He made the call at the opening of a five-day Trade advocacy training for English-speaking countries of West Africa. 

Mr Shofola explained that the training which was funded by the European Union and implemented by the World Bank and GIZ is aimed at improving Trade facilitation in the Sub-region.

The lead trainer and consultant to the ECOWAS, Dr Ken Ukaoha who expressed concern on how Trade and economic issues have been relegated to the background by the media, urged participants to use their various platforms to promote the free trade agenda of the Sub-region.

He said despite the numerous Trade agreements signed by African countries,  there is still capacity gaps and a lack of commitments by member states. 

Twenty-five journalists are participating in the training.
