NEDC trains 150 youths on waste management in Yobe

The North East Development Commission says it will continue to collaborate with governments and other partners to build the capacity of youths in the region to make them more productive.

The Managing Director of the North East Development Commission, Muhammed Alkali stated this at the closing of a five day training for selected youth on efficient waste management practices in Yobe state .

Muhammed Alkali said building the capacity would not only increase their productivity but also help in addressing idleness and high rate of poverty in the North East subregion ravaged by insurgency.

The Managing Director represented by the Yobe State Focal Person of the North East Development, Dr Ali Abbas said the training was designed to build the capacity waste collectors on modern best practices on waste management and to link them up with available markets.

Also, the Yobe state Commissioner of Environment, Alhaji Sidi Karasuwa in a message said the state government would continue to train its people on different skills to make them self reliant.

The commissioner commended the NEDC for the training and urged the participants to make good use of the skills learned to improve their businesses..

Some of the participants Yunusa Gashaka, Hafsat Usman Shehu and Musa Baba Wuro said the skills acquired would help them to modernize their businesses and to also observe all safety measures for a healthy environment.

Certificates were presented to the one hundred and fifty participants selected from the seventeen local government areas of Yobe state.
