The Federal government has commenced the distribution of assorted food commodities to vulnerable people in Taraba State.
The flag off took place in Jalingo, the state capital on Tuesday.
President Muhammadu Buhari was Represented by the Minister for Transportation, Alhaji Muhammed Jaji, the President said that the prices of food commodities had skyrocketed hence the release of assorted food commodities to the vulnerable people in the state.
The President explained that the trend was a global challenge and Nigeria was not an exception to the phenomenon.
According to him, this initiative was to impact Nigerians across the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT.
President Buhari said the program was part of the Federal Government’s efforts at ensuring food security and poverty alleviation.
The President maintained that the commodities should be distributed free.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Jaji inaugurated a six-man committee for the distribution of the items to the targeted beneficiaries.
Earlier, Governor Darius Ishaku in a message commended President Buhari for the gesture and elevation of Alhaji Sambo Jaji as substantive minister.
In a goodwill message, the Emir of Muri, HRH Alhaji Abbas Tafida advised the people of Taraba state to invest more in farming.
