President Muhammadu Buhari has strongly condemned the murder of a Catholic priest, Reverend Father John Cheitnum of the Kafanchan Catholic Diocese, four days after he was seized by gunmen.
Reacting to the incident, President Buhari says he is deeply disturbed by the murder of the revered religious figure by outlaws, who seem to be bent on creating chaos and disorder in the country.
He explains that the persistent attack on innocent people, including religious figures, is a matter of grave concern for the administration because security is one of the major issues of its campaign promises.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the President reassures Nigerians that his commitment to the issue is as firm as ever.
He says he has made it a duty to regularly summon security chiefs to discuss the challenges with the objective of finding a permanent solution to them.
The President says he is not allowing the security chiefs to rest until they have found a very effective solution to the disturbing security situation.
He stresses that the security of Nigerians remains the government’s major priority, further reassuring the citizenry that the administration is determined to crush the enemies of humanity with all the resources at its disposal,
President Buhari extends his condolences to the family of the deceased, and the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Kaduna State over the death of Revenue Father Cheitnum.
