Women have been urged to participate actively in the electioneering Campaign ahead of 2023 general election.
The President, Women in Politics Forum Ebele Ifendu stated this in Calabar Cross River State during a two day Training on Gender Sensitive Reporting in Nigeria.
Ms Ebele Ifendu said that active participation of women in the electoral process would help them to make informed decision on who to vote for in next year’s general election.
She advised them to vote for the Candidates that had the interest of women and children at heart.
In a paper entitled Gender and Media Relations the Senior Program Officer, Center for Democracy Development, Austin Aigbe urged the Media to always be gender sensitive in their reportage.
According to him, Gender role stereotypes promoted by the Media are usually reinforced by parents,friends and other people in the Society as the media play important role in how people form their identities, social norms and values in relation to gender.
Mr Aigbe appealed to the Media to be gender sensitive in their reportage.
In Another presentation, the Co founder of the women Radio Toun Okewale-Sonaiya urged the Media to always amplify the achievements of women who made positive impacts towards nation development.
She appealed to the Media to eschew derogatory words aimed at discouraging women participation in the political processes.
Toun Okewale-Sonaiya solicited the support of the media in ensuring that more women are mobilized to participate in 2023 elections and beyond.
The program Manager, National Democratic Institute NDI, Annabel Ugwuoke said that her organization decided to support Women in Politics Forum to ensure that women are mobilized for next year’s general election.
