SON adopts standards on educational management system

The Standards Organization of Nigeria, says it is adopting the ISO 21001:2018 on educational organizations standards.

Mr Farouk Salim, the Director General of SON, says the standard would help improve on the quality of services in the educational organization.

According to the Director General, It will also make the education system in the country comparable to international best practices.

Mr Salim represented by the Director Training Services of SON, Mr Timothy Abner, Mr Salim said the decision to adopt the international standard on educational organizations management system ISO 21001:2018 was apt at this time when the borders was closed to all forms of trade with other African countries.

It is important that we promote and sustain our learning institutions by ensuring that the services that are provided in our schools meet the needs of learners, promote equal opportunities for all students and earn the confidence and approval of learners’ sponsors” He noted.

The Director Standard Development Directorate, Mr Yahaya Bukar said the national mirror committee for education and learning services inaugurated would serve as the technical committee that would stablish required national standards in the sector.

“The committee members must be experts and are going to be the ‘voice of the country’ in national, regional and international education standardization activities” Mr Yahaya Bukar stated.

The chairperson of the National Mirror Committee on Education Organisations Management Systems (EOMS) Standard (ISO 21001:2018) is Professor Grace Otinwa.

After the adoption by Nigeria, it will now be known as (NIS) ISO 21001:2022 EDUCATIONAL ORGANISATIONS MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS STANDARDS
