Federal fire Service trains business owners on fire safety

The Federal Fire Service, FFS, has emphasized the need for business owners and private individuals to provide first-rate firefighting equipment and follow safety precautions to prevent fire outbreaks in the country.

The Controller General of the Service, Alhaji Abdul Jaji, stated this during a sensitization tour to major markets, Emab plaza, and the FCT’s Computer Village in Abuja to commemorate his 100 days in office.

The Controller General, represented by the Controller Federal Fire Service, FCT Command, Mr Daudu Johnson, said that preventive knowledge was critical to saving lives and protecting businesses.

“It is the responsibility of business and shop owners to protect their property and investments from fire in accordance with the Fire Safety Code,” He explained.

Controller General noted that business owners suffer the lion share of losses during fire outbreaks, hence the need to be more cautious.

Superintendent of Fire, Mr Umar Abdulmaleek said the usage of fire extinguishers and application of traditional methods like the use of sand, and water mixed with detergent in non electrical outbreak and the use of bunches of leaves were indispensable to put out and subdue fire.

“You need to do proper house keeping by removing inflammable equipment away from heat and fire” he said.

The Head of Management, EMAB plaza, Abuja, Mr Naedu Umeohia explained that the sensitization has thoroughly enlightened him and his fellow business owners more on the practical means of preventing fire disaster.

The Chairman, Computer Village, FCT, Mr McDonald Ugochukwu appreciated the Federal Fire Service for the awareness campaign and described it as an eye-opener.
