Drug addiction ‘impetus for terrorism’ – Gov Bagudu

The Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has identified drug addiction as the impetus for banditry, insurgency and other security challenges in the country.

Senator Bagudu made the assertion during a courtesy visit by wives of the 19 Northern Governors in company of the First Lady of Ekiti State, Bisi Fayemi, at Government House, Birnin Kebbi.

Governor Bagudu describe the Northern Governors Wives Forum as an effective platform that can help in finding a solution to drug addiction in the society, especially among youths.

He, however, appreciated their efforts in tackling drug-related problems through regional approach for what he described as “a wholesome solution”.

Earlier, the Chairperson of the Northern Governors Wives’ Forum and Wife of the Kaduna State Governor, Architect Hadiza El-Rufa’i said members of the Forum were working towards the eradication of drug abuse, which has become a menace in the north.

Architect Rufa’i, who described drug abuse as a national problem, told the governor that the  Forum had already made the issue its “flagship project”.

She requested state governors to increase their financial, technical and material support for campaigns against drug addiction in the country.
