FG to reposition Agri-business

A technical committee for the implementation of a policy aimed at repositioning the Agri-business in the country has been inaugurated by the federal government.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo says the policy would tackle challenges in the sector hampering government’s goal of diversifying the economy through non-oil sector.

Mr Adebayo explained that as part of efforts to provide the enabling environment for the commodity sub-sector to thrive, the Federal Executive Council approved a memo on the need to promote agri-business through the right farm gate pricing and ban of foreigners and their representatives from purchasing agricultural commodities at the farm gates.

Nigeria’s non-oil sector has enormous potential that is capable of diversifying the economy for employment generation, poverty reduction and food security amongst others.

Otunba Adebayo therefore urged members of the committee to work assiduously to actualise its mandate.
