Jigawa orders closure of schools over security threat

The Jigawa State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private schools in the state over security threats.

The commissioner for Education, Dr Lawan Danzomo stated this to newsmen in Dutse the State capital.

Danzomo explained that the directive was not limited to only Jigawa state but all the border states.

A Headmaster who pleaded anonymity confirmed that they were asked to shut down the schools and release the student immediately.

”The directives came while the students were writing their examinations as most of the students especially from boarding schools were left stranded after the closure of the schools.

When contacted, the public relations officer of the state police command, Lawan Shiisu Adam, said the Jigawa State Police Command had not been briefed by the state’s Ministry of Education.

Radio Nigeria visited some of the schools around the Dutse metropolis including Dutse Standard School, Golden Brown, Elpis International, Salem, and Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi primary school, and observed that the students were stranded as the schools were under lock and key.
