Family of 7 die after eating local food

Seven members of one family died after consuming a Hausa traditional food called “Dambu” in Danbaza village, Maradun local government area, Zamfara State.

Mr Lawal Haruna, a member of the family who is among the survivors, told Radio Nigeria that about 22 members of the extended family ate the food, which was a mixture of Guinea Corn, vegetables, and seasoning.

Haruna explained that some of them immediately began to exhibit symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea, resulting in the deaths of six people on that day.

He stated that the seventh person died the next morning.

Ibrahim Dosara, the State Commissioner for Information, who visited the affected family, urged members of the public to practise proper hygiene, particularly when handling food.
