The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, on Monday, said attacks on police officers on official duties will no longer be tolerated.
In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the Inspector General of Police emhasised that attacks on police officers who are uniformed agents of the state is both illegal and an affront of the law.
He also ordered all police commands and formations to ensure immediate prosecution of anyone who assaults policemen regardless of the causative factors.
The IGP warned that attacks on police officers and men in the line of duty would no longer be tolerated under whatever guise, as the Force holds the lives of its personnel sacrosanct.
He reiterated the commitment of the Force to protect lives and property and stressed the importance of upholding the fundamental rights of police officers and other security operatives to enable them to discharge their sacred mandate.
The recent warning is related to a viral video, were three males and a female occupant of a car were seen fighting policemen while one of them was trying to disarm an officer and another one was beating another officer.
