Putin will not attend Gorbachev’s funeral

Russian President Vladimir Putin, will not attend the last Soviet Union Leader’s funeral, Mikhail Gorbachev.

The announcement was made by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Thursday.

Mr Gorbachev died on Tuesday and will be buried on Saturday after a public ceremony in Moscow’s Hall of Columns, the Kremlin said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said “Unfortunately, the president’s work schedule will not allow him to attend,”

BBC reported, that President Putin had laid red roses next to Mr Gorbachev’s coffin at the hospital where he died in Moscow earlier today.

The Kremlin also said that Mr Gorbachev’s funeral would not be a state one.
