Senator Walid Jibrin has resigned as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the People`s Democratic Party (PDP)
The former senator announced his resignation at the BoT National Executive Committee meeting on Thursday in Abuja
His resignation comes amid calls that the party’s leadership structure be reshuffled to balance the existing lopsidedness.
However, some party members said the resignation of the BoT chairman was not enough to assuage the feelings of the southern leaders of the party led by Rivers state Governor Nyesome Wike, insisting on the resignation of the National Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.
As of the time of filling this report, former senate President, Adolphus wagbara has taken over as acting chairman of the BoT.
Counter groups were protesting at the Party’s Headquarters chanting “Ayu must go”, “Ayu must stay ” slogans.
