NIS rescues teenager from traffickers

Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has rescued and handed over a 13-year-old girl, Temitope Marvellous to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Sokoto office.

State Comptroller of Immigration Rabi Bashir Nuhu stated that the girl was intercepted at Koko border post by Immigration border patrol team in a commercial bus coming from Ogun State to Sokoto through Kebbi state.

Comptroller Rabi Nuhu noted that during interrogation Temitope Marvellous gave out contacts in Libya which were suspicious, and this made the personnel to conclude the child was being trafficked.

According to the comptroller, the girl claimed she was going to Libya as a ‘house help’, although it was suspected that her journey was for prostitution or organ harvest.

Meanwhile, NAPTIP’s representative Sokoto office, Rilwan Mohammed Buhari, assured that, the agency would investigate and unite the victim with her family.
