Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur after a second successive defeat in a major final, says it would be “tough” to get over the loss but remained positive overall following another excellent run at a Grand Slam event.
World number one Iga Swiatek capped a dominant season by beating fifth seeded Ons Jabeur at the US Open to win her second major title of 2022.
21 year old Swiatek from Poland won 6-2 7-6 (7-5) to secure the season’s final Grand Slam trophy on the New York hard courts.
Swiatek’s previous two wins both came on the clay at the French Open.
Jabeur also lost in the Wimbledon final in July and her wait for one of the sport’s four most prestigious titles continues.
The always smiling Jabeur will rise to equal her career-high ranking of second in the world after reaching the US Open final.
The Tunisian who is already thinking about a strong showing at the season-ending WTA Finals is setting herself up for another tilt at the Australian Open come January next year.
