The Queen is now lying in state, and thousands turned out to see her final journey from Buckingham Palace.
As the sombre thump of the drum echoed out, the crowds at the far end of The Mall fell silent.
Both young and old, who had been cheerfully reminiscing about the Queen’s extraordinary life moments before, bowed their heads.
As her coffin passed by, people cried and made the sign of the cross, army veterans saluted their former commander-in-chief, and families hugged.
Seconds after Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin passed out of sight, thunderous applause broke out, filling the warm London afternoon air.
According to BBC, she was brought in a procession from Buckingham Palace, Princes William and Harry, along with King Charles III, walked behind the coffin
Guns were fired in Hyde Park and Big Ben was tolled every minute in the sombre ceremony
The Queen’s funeral will be held on Monday 19 September.
