NDLEA arrest convict with 5.9kg of cocaine

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested an ex-convict, Onyeka Charles Madukolu, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, for importing 5.90 kilograms of cocaine hidden in deodorants and lip gloss.

According to NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, the suspect, who was sentenced to seven years in prison in Ethiopia for drug trafficking offenses and released in 2020, was arrested again on Friday 16th September 2022 at the Lagos airport on his way back from Sao Paulo, Brazil on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.

During a preliminary interview, he claimed to have entered the drug trade to raise funds for a legitimate business after his release from an Ethiopian prison in 2020.

The 44-year-old indigene of Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, said he was expecting to be paid N2m on successful delivery of the illicit drug in Nigeria.
