Another building collapse in Lagos

A three storey building has collapsed on Sonuga Street, Palm Avenue, in the Mushin area of Lagos.

The spokesperson of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nosa Okunbor who confirmed the incidence, said personnel of the Agency have been deployed to the area.

He said an adult and a child have been rescued from the rubbles.

“A three-storey building has collapsed at Oye Sonuga Street, opposite Oye Roundabout, Isolo road, Mushin. An adult and a child have been rescued. The search and rescue operation is ongoing”, Okunbo said

As of the time of filing this report, it could not be established if anyone was trapped under the debris.

Building collapse has become recurring decimal in Lagos state, the most recent was the collapse of a 7 Storey building under construction in Lekki. six persons died from that incident.

Meanwhile, the commissioner for physical planning and urban development, Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins has ordered the demolition of a structure beside the three-storey building that collapsed.

Spokesperson Lagos state ministry of physical planning and urban development, Mukaila Sanusi who confirmed this in a statement said the commissioner gave the directive that the adjoining building be pulled down immediately to forestall further collapse and for safety reasons.

Mukaila Sanusi added that the ministry is investigating the cause of the incident.
