25 police have been recommended for dismissal by the Independent Investigation Panel on Human Rights Violation by the Defunct SARS and Other Units of the Nigerian Police Force.
The Panel also suggested that 4 others be demoted and that 28 to be prosecuted.
Chairman of the Panel, a retired Justice, Suleiman Galadima, delivered the panel’s report to the National Human Rights Commission on Tuesday in Abuja and charged it with seeing that the report was fully implemented.
The former Justice pleaded with state governments to put aside compensation funds for those who have been subjected to extrajudicial killings, abusive police tactics, and other inhumane treatment.
Additionally, Justice Galadima urged the harmonization of the various State panels’ reports for follow-up measures.
Receiving the report on behalf of the federal government, the Executive Secretary NHRC, Chief Tony Ojukwu said the Commission would partner with Civil Society Organizations and other development partners to ensure that recommendations of the panel were fully implemented.
