Flood: Senate directs urgent assistance to Jigawa victim

The Senate has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to affected flood victims in Jigawa State and other parts of the country.

It also urged relevant disaster management agencies to provide timely early warning to flood prone areas to forestall loss of lives and property.

These resolutions, were sequel to a motion sponsored by Senator Danladi Sankara representing Jigawa North West, on the recent flood incidences that happened in several communities in the state.

In the motion Sen Sankara lamented that over 1,000 in Ringim, Kazaure, Gumel Dutse and Hadejia emirates in Jigawa State were washed away, while over 100 people lost their lives.

“Major parts of the affected local government areas are still submerged and the state emergency response agency not able to handle the disaster”, he said.

He also called for urgent medical and humanitarian assistance to be deployed to the affected victims, to avoid the outbreak of major health challenge.
