Super Eagles winless in five matches against Algeria

Super Eagles once again continued their winless run against the desert foxes of Algeria after losing 2-1 in a friendly game on Tuesday in Oran.

The Eagles from Nigeria were without key players including Napoli forward Victor Osimhen; defender William Troost-Ekong among others for the clash in the North African nation.

But Jose Peseiro’s men took the lead just eight minutes into the game when Terem Moffi struck for Nigeria which was his first for the country in five games.

Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez levelled things for the Fennecs before halftime when he converted from the spot.

A Youcef Atal cracker, 21 minutes later, gave Peseiro his first defeat since taking over the team earlier in the year.

While Tuesday’s game is just the second friendly between the nations, Nigeria and Algeria have played 21 times.

Both teams have nine wins, while three ended in draws.

Only last week, Nigeria’s Super Eagles had battled to a 2-2 draw with the Algerian home-based side.

The Super Eagles and the desert foxes will not be in Qatar as both did not qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
