Adeleke to be sworn-in following court ruling

The Supreme Court has affirmed the Governor-elect of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke is the authentic candidate of the PDP for the gubernatorial election that held in the state on July 16.

In a unanimous judgement, a five-man panel of justices led by Justice Amina Augie, the apex court dismissed an appeal that was filed against Sen. Adeleke by Prince Dotun Babayemi who alleged that the governorship ticket of the PDP emerged from a parallel primary election that was held by a faction of the party in the state.

Counsel to the appellant and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adebayo Adelodun, withdrew the appeal after the Justice Augie drew his attention to the fact that the case was statute barred.

The panel had maintained that the appeal was incompetent, adding that it was filed outside the 14 days period provided by the law.

Speaking to journalists, counsel to the respondents, Mr Oluwole Jimi-Bada expressed satisfaction and added that the implication of the decision of the court was that Adeleke would be sworn into office on November 27 this year.
