Having underaged househelp still illegal

The employment of underaged persons as house help remains punishable by law.

National President, Institute of Social Work Practitioners of Nigeria, Professor Oluwayemisi John stated this while briefing newsmen at the National Assembly.

Prof Yemisi said the institute is working with the standard regulation of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on who qualifies to be a worker.

According to her, anyone below 15 years is not qualified to work.

She urged Nigerians to report persons found employing an underaged person as house-help to the institute.

Yemisi commended the National Assembly for ensuring the swift passage of the bill, and also expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari, for assenting to the Act.
