Commuters on Wednesday have been held up for several hours causing heavy traffic buildup that extended to the Lokoja-Koton-Karfe road due to flood.

Flood since Monday took over the new bridge under construction around Kotonkarfe town in Kogi State on the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway, leaving many motorists and other road users stranded.

Our correspondent in Lokoja reports that he was on a bike for more than one hour from NATACO junction to Kotonkarfi and Gebu village on the Lokoja/Abaji expressway traversing through Ramat Murtala Mohammed bridge between Monday and Wednesday.

Boat ride with about 50 people charges as much as 1000 naira each. Motorcycle also known as Okada charges between 3000 and 7000 naira to cross the river and the roads covered with water.

Police, Army and FRSC officials were completely overwhelmed with hundreds of articulated lorries, trailers and tankers, as well as cars and buses traveling far distances were at standstill for many hours.

Many claimed they had stayed on a spot for 72 hours.
